Two branch line terminii connect via a single track continuous run, both branch lines have some limited storage facilities, either on the single siding in the case of the station inside the run, or on the extention of the run around loop in the case of the external branch line. I see this as operating in any steam era given the loops, though that probably doesn't preclude early diesel. Also it would probably be best set up as DCC operated, given the limited storage, that way a couple of locos could be kept in one siding without having to fit isolating sections.
