Free Track Plans for your Model Railway
10x8 Mallaig
Minimum radius = 2nd radius
This plan is based on the West Highland station as it was in the 1970s, with plenty of space for scenic work to represent the rocky outcrops and industrial buildings filling the shore at this location. The fiddle yard area to the bottom right could also be developed as a loco depot, whilst a small halt provides another stopping point for 2 or 3 coach passenger services. Mallaig station would be built on a raised upper level, with a continuous run hidden underneath. A scenic break is illustrated by the purple line, as the rest of the layout would otherwise appear to be below-sea level – fortunately we are not constrained by the laws of nature when planning a model railway! Rolling stock should include Class 26s, 27s and 37s, with Mk1 coaches and even a sprinter or two towards the end of the 1980s. Steam specials such as Black Fives and various LNER types can also be justified, operating the popular ‘Jacobite’ services each summer.
